The newly published paper, Internet-based versus synchronous cognitive behavioral therapy for gambling disorder: Study protocol for a non-inferiority randomized controlled trial, authored by Aarhus University, Aarhus University Hospital, and University of Calgary, outlines a non-inferiority randomized controlled trial comparing the effectiveness of SpilleFri, an asynchronous therapist-guided internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy program, with individual synchronous CBT delivered in-person or via video for adults with gambling disorder.

It is a great pleasure that the Danish Problem Gambling Committee can invite you to an online conference on gambling addiction and problematic gambling behavior. The conference will take place on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and will be held online.

The conference will feature presentations from leading researchers in the field of gambling addiction, as well as insights from researchers who have received support from the Danish Gambling Addiction Committee. The conference program can be viewed HERE.

The Danish Problem Gambling Committee contributed as co-sponsor to the event, which was partly based on the project "Gamblified Game Mechanisms in Danish Children and Young People's Gaming," funded by the Danish Problem Gambling Committee.

The conference focused on highlighting the challenges we face at the intersection of youth gaming behavior, gambling, and financial trends, as well as discussing possible solutions to these issues. The day featured presentations from a number of inspiring speakers, including Minister for Taxation Rasmus Stoklund, Director of the Danish Gambling Authority Anders Dorph, and Political Director at the Danish Consumer Council Uffe Rabe Krag.

A special thanks goes to Anne Mette Thorhauge, Andreas Gregersen, and Jacob Ørmen for their tremendous effort and for organizing an exceptionally well-executed event.

The Board of the Danish Problem Gambling Committee assesses that the research field in Denmark currently has limited capacity to absorb research funding, and that an important task going forward is to address this. The Board has therefore initiated measures including:

• Providing information about the Danish Problem Gambling Committee to research support units at Danish research institutions
• Giving feedback to rejected applicants whose projects show good potential, encouraging them to reapply with revised proposals
• Targeted information about future funding calls to relevant researchers and research institutions in Denmark

The unused funds from 2024 will be carried over for disbursement in 2025.
